Pete Englund had been performing crew based trail work across 12 different states for 18 years before the DNR ended their AmeriCorps program and Legacy Trails was formed. He has set tool to trail on 4 National Scenic Trails throughout his career. Pete cut his teeth doing trail work on a portage crew in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness while in college. This soon turned into a passion for the work and the people who do it. He is a 9 time alum of the Student Conservation program and has led High School kids to retirees in performing all facets of trail work. He still trains crew leaders for the organization and especially enjoys teaching trail layout and design. He currently performs maintenance for the Iowa DOT.
